Advanced Neuroimaging

Emergent CT scanning is available 24/7 at the Level 2 Primary Stroke Centers to evaluate if the patient has a blockage-type stroke (ischemic stroke) or bleeding-type stroke (hemorrhagic stroke). Evaluation of ischemic stroke patients for endovascular therapies includes understanding the amount of brain that is potentially damaged (ischemic core) versus the amount of brain that is potentially dying and salvageable (ischemic penumbra). Advanced neuroimaging techniques such as MR Diffusion/Perfusion imaging are available 24/7 at the Level 1 Comprehensive Stroke Centers as part of the brain-attack protocol.

The Texas Stroke Institute is a collaborative initiative that includes eleven North Texas HCA hospitals. Our goal is to develop an effective and resource-efficient plan to reduce the morbidity, mortality and economic burden of stroke in the region. Incorporating medical education and participating in research will establish us as a National Center of Excellence in Stroke.
